Motohiro Tanji

In a time when almost everything gets its upgrade, Motohiro Tanji has decided that knitwear should not be an exception. Combining his knowledge about 3D computer graphics and programming with his love for fashion, he has been creating unique, statement pieces of clothing.
The designer’s latest spring/summer 2014 collection is composed of a series of garments that are tailored to the season, and yet retain the label’s distinctive style. A variety of sweaters and cardigans are in the core of this line-up. They stand out due to their exquisite textures, occurring as a result of using the various techniques in the production process. These stylish items are adorned with different geometric ornaments and perforations. Furthermore, the peek-a-boo fringes are placed between the two parts of the solid material, rather than on the edges. The proposal is enriched by the incredibly light dresses, shorts and trousers made of the same knitted fabric. The colour palette is moderate and it consists of black, off-white, brown, blue and a pop of red.
Motohiro Tanji was born in Japan. He studied Fashion design at Bunka Fashion College, and later specialized in Fashion Knitwear Design at Nottingham Trent University. His namesake label, established in 2012, is centred on handmade womanswear that ranges from commercial to unconventional, sculptural creations.
