Stacking vessels by Utopia&Utility

Stacking vessels by Utopia&Utility - Cover

Created through an absolutely enchanting process, the Utopia & Utility Stacking Vessels perfectly represent the very purpose of their creators Pia and Moritz Wustenberg: fusing functionality and beauty in a handmade product that clusters craftsmen all over the world.

The Stacking Vessels collection combines three craft processes, materials and artisans to make one piece. Actually each vessel consists of three containers, a hand thrown ceramic bottom, a centerpiece of hand blown glass and a hand carved wood cap, which stack to form a nice rounded shape or a more moulded one.

The vessels, as a signature to this peculiar making process, are unique pieces and reveal the different influences that have contributed to create each part.
The Transformed Stacking Vessels are meant to challenge the notion of familiar: viewed from the front they look completely symmetrical, but from the side they are asymmetrical. Raku Staking Vessels add even more fascination to the process; indeed the Raku ceramics are achieved through smoke firing. Right after a glaze is applied and the ceramic is covered with wood chips, the thermal shock affects the surface and results in an uneven and craqueled finish. Homage to Matisse is the Fauvist part of the collection: three vessels inspired by the strong and bold colors of Henri Matisse – blue, yellow and red of course. Inspired by exotic landscapes, the India Stacking Vessels depict Indian silk atmospheres and are made from radiant spun brass and copper. On the other hand the Africa Stacking Vessels recalls the pure form of African Pottery and its warm colors.
